While the Auditor General of Alberta is conducting a limited-scope audit of this matter, given the involvement of both AHS and the Government in this matter, a public inquiry through the Public Inquiries Act is warranted.
Patients in Alberta deserve confidence in our health care system, and in the government’s integrity and decision-making processes. The public, in a fully non-political and non-partisan manner, must have the power to assess and determine the appropriateness of various health expenditures, as well as government interference in contracting processes.
